Down your street: August & September

by Wimbledon Town & Dundonald Lib Dems on 28 August, 2011

The Dundonald Lib Dem Team is always available to help people improve their local area. You can see some information on how we’ve helped residents to help themselves in June and July here.

In August and September, we have:

  • Reported overhanging trees on Fairlawn Road (now trimmed) and a faulty street light;  a broken tree branch on Carlton Park Avenue and missing street signs on Aston Road, Vernon Avenue and Chestnut Road (missing sign for Chestnut Road is now on order, but as there are still low level signs on Aston Road and Vernon Avenue the Council does not consider it necessary to replace the high level signs); and flyposting on the Lower Downs Road bridge.
  • Chased Transport for London/Tramlink about the bags of hardcore/ballast on the land near Dundonald Road Tram Stop – these were supposed to be used in works on the tram line in early July, but we are now promised that they will be completed by the end of September (strangely, after telling us that the works would be completed in September, the ballast was removed/used shortly after we contacted them).
  • Complained about the lack of regular street cleaning on Merton Hall Road (after several weeks without sweeping, our complaint has resulted in litter being collected within a couple of days – but we will be monitoring whether the street is swept weekly as it should be).
  • Contacted Transport for London (again) about the traffic problems caused by the lights at the junction of Kingston Road and Hartfield Road. Sitting traffic makes the air quality worse! (they say this is because of the trams, but they will arrange for further observations to see if there is anything else we can do to reduce the queues).
  • Discovered that  parking restrictions may be on the way for some Apostles roads – apparently “a report is being drafted with the results of the Apostles CPZ (controlled parking zone) proposals. This is to be sent to the Street Advisory Committee and the Cabinet Member for approval. Officers’ are recommending that Carlton Park Avenue, Vernon Avenue and Edna Road be included in the existing RPS CPZ and that Rothesay Avenue and Chase Side Avenue be included in the existing 5F CPZ.”
  • Contacted the Council about the warehouse/storage trolleys that the new Tesco at Wimbledon Chase was leaving on the pavement in front of the shop – an eyesore, and also potentially risking their theft (these have not been seen since our report).
