Rainbow Industrial Estate, Thameslink and Wimbledon’s new Stag . . .

by Wimbledon Town & Dundonald Lib Dems on 21 June, 2012

A quick update post:

  • Merton Council is now consulting on “on outline proposals for the redevelopment of the Rainbow Industrial Estate as an employment-led mixed-use development” – ie flats and business space. The consultation runs until 25 July. You can see a bit more about the plans and our concerns here.  We are slightly suprised that the “draft planning brief” has been prepared by the owner of the site, Workspace, rather than the Council. Planning briefs set out a Council’s aims for a site, and guide and restrict planning applications; whereas in this case the owner seems to be writing the rules . . .
  • The Messy Train Land Blogger reports on a challenge to the Transport Minister to ensure that the ‘Wimbledon Loop’ on the Thameslink line is not cut, to preserve south London’s direct train links to St Pancras and Luton airport.
  • Wimbledon Station has a new 3 metre tall sculpture of a stag. It was unveiled on 21 June, and was designed by artist Isabelle Southwood – take a look here.
