Down your street: 2012 [updated]

by Wimbledon Town & Dundonald Lib Dems on 5 January, 2012

The Dundonald Lib Dem Team is always available to help people improve their local area. You can see some information on how we’ve helped residents to help themselves between Oct – Dec 2011  here.

Since 1 January 2012, we have:

  • In January, reported dumped Christmas trees on the Avebury Road verge at the corner of Dundonald Recreation ground and flytips on both Lower Downs and Burstow Roads (collected and cleared respectively).
  • Been informed that the planning application to build a 3 storey block on flats on the Dorien Road Glass Facory site has been rejected by planning officers. We worked to alert residents to the application, and assisted some residents in how to have their say (this decision has now been appealed by the developers).
  • Faulty street lights on Aston and Bronson Roads reported.
  • Assisted and encouraged residents to write objection letters about the latest plans for the Emma Hamilton pub site. You can read more about this here.
  • In February, reported flytipping on the alley between Kingston Road and Abbott Avenue, the alley between Hartfield Cresent and Graham Road, on Kingston Road near the junction with Chase Side Avenue, and behind the recycling bin at Dundonald Road tram stop (cleared).
  • Chased the Council about grafitti tags on Dundonald Road near the tram stop (still there – we were hopeful it would be painted out in November, but the Council needed the property owners’ go ahead) – and reported dumped rubbish at the edge of Kingfisher Court’s driveway/Dundonald Road (cleared).
  • Raised the state of Network Rail’s embankments in March at Raynes Park, Lower Downs Road, Wimbledon Chase, and by the railway bridge over The Chase (Raised a further complaint in June, they promised action in November, but the worst bits of the land were cleared in December).
  • Tried to find out how disabled drivers could use the new disabled parking bays at Wimbledon Station (there is now a sign stating that the right hand lane on the access road needs to be kept free for blue badge holders).
  • In April and May, in terms of damaged pavements and roads – we’ve reported loose and damaged paving stones on Toynbee Road, Aston Road (both fixed).
  • Alterted TfL to litter and flytipping on tram land along the public footpath between Dundonald Road and Alt Grove (TfL have investigated; in July they promised a further litter pick).
  • Challenged the Council about whether it has proper plans to deal with increased demand for school places (see here).
  • Reported damaged paving stones on Dundonald Road near Cochrane and Caroline Roads (some fixed, some still chasing), as well as potholes on Burstow and Goodenough Roads, in July and August.
  • Organised for drains on Prince George’s Avenue to be cleared (done).
  • Argued for extra lighting on the public right of way (alleyway) between Hartfield Crescent and Graham Road (after a significant amount of chasing, the extra lighting was installed in December).
  • Reported damaged bollards on Kingston, Dundonald and Merton Hall Roads, as well as damaged (and dangerously leaning!) signs on Herbert Road and at the Hartfield Road car park (now all fixed).
  • In September, reported damaged paving slabs and potholes on Burstow, Merton Hall, and Graham Roads, as well as street lights on all day on Dorien and Bronson Roads and Wilton Crescent (fixed).
  • Raised flytipping on Herbert, Russell and Bushey Roads, and Hartfield Crescent, with the Council in October (all cleared), as well as damaged paving in the alleyway between Dundonald and Kingswood Roads (fixed in early January 2013). October was when we also kicked off our campaign, 20’s plenty for safer streets. Find out more here.
  • Reported, in November, a pothole on Fairlawn Road and a damaged street light on Toynbee Road.
  • In December, we contacted residents in Herbert Road to see what they thought about benches on the Herbert Road green (suggested by a Hartfield Road resident in August). People were concerned that benches would lead to people hanging around, litter and potential anti-social behaviour.
