Thameslink service changes: all still to fight for

by Wimbledon Town & Dundonald Lib Dems on 10 December, 2011

In a letter to Merton Liberal Democrats, the Department for Transport said any decision on the proposed reduction to the Wimbledon loop train services are “still some way off” and would only be made after proper consultation with local residents.

Network Rail has said it may cut the direct link between south London, the City and central London, commonly known as the ‘Wimbledon loop’ – after the Thameslink upgrade is completed in 2016.

Under the plans, local commuters would find their train terminating at Blackfriars and be forced to transfer to a different service.

However, a Government response to local Liberal Democrat questions indicates that the final decision has not been made yet, and there’s still time to convince them to reject Network Rail’s plans.

Merton’s Liberal Democrats have launched the “Save our Thameslink” petition.
